Adventures in a ghost town
One of the things I love about my husband is that he has an incredible sense of adventure. I have one too, but it’s not as readily accessible as Sean’s. I guess one could call that laziness on my part, but I’ve always been upfront: I love playing games and trying new things, but you need to force me into it the first time. Not sure why this is—especially with board games. The thought of playing Apples to Apples, or Monopoly is daunting… so much work! Ok. Not really. But there’s a weird mental block I have to get past; after that, I always end up having fun. I’m working on becoming more open-minded the first time around.
This weekend, we were driving back from Colorado through the desert, and Sean opted for a quick detour to the town of Cisco. It’s essentially a ghost town in the middle of nowhere, where the houses are falling apart (sometimes caving in) and there are a number of cars, trucks, and busses scattered around the area. Very odd… very remote… very cool adventure. It makes you wonder who used to live there, and why they left.
I tell this story to inspire you to take more adventures. No need to book your ticket to rural Romania just yet—I’m talking about the little adventures. Don’t be lazy—take more side trips, more detours. Play board games when your friends/kids/husbands ask you. You’ll be glad you did… and don’t forget to take pictures!
