St. George Inspiration: FIVE TO THRIVE

2010 July 8

This past week, I had the pleasure of spending a few sweltering (yet NOT humid) days in St. George, Utah with Sean’s parents. Although everyone warned me about the extreme heat, I really didn’t think it was that bad. Sure, you couldn’t sit in direct sunlight for more than 15 minutes without wanting to shave your head and then shove your face in a freezer. Sure, every time we got back in the car after shopping at a store I wanted to crawl out of my skin and run far, far away because it was so stuffy. But you know what? I DIDN’T SWEAT! There was no humidity! It was glorious!

Yay for no sweating! Do you realize this is a HUGE MILESTONE in my life? I deserve a medal. <Pats self on back>

<Scratches head and wonders if anyone thinks it’s weird when I describe my own actions and talk in second person>

Moving on…

In the interest of time, I’m going to introduce a new initiative here on The Mollie Shambeau Show, followed by some great pictures from my trip.

You know how people say that copy-catting is the sincerest form of flattery? Well I’m going to go ahead and copy something that I thought was just fantastic. It’s called “FIVE TO THRIVE,” and I copied it directly from Tuachan Amphitheatre, the outdoor amphitheater Sean’s parents took me to twice while I was visiting.

(Thank you, theater people for having good ideas.)

(Thank you, Tom and Mary Lou for exposing me to this AMAZING place!)

The motto “FIVE TO THRIVE” is simple: If each of you—yes YOU over there, in the sweatpants! Oh wait…that’s me—took a moment to e-mail the link to my site to FIVE PEOPLE who you think would love The Mollie Shambeau Show, then The Mollie Shambeau Show will THRIVE (and hopefully sell more scarves for Style for a Cure, raise more money for JDRF, and eventually become the greatest blog that ever lived).

Encourage them to bookmark the page! Check it often! Tell their friends about it! Use exclamation points! Sign up for my subscription list by clicking the “Sign me up” button on the top of the right-hand menu on this page! (Every time I post, you get an e-mail. Exciting!)

Think of it like this: You know how you leave a tip at a restaurant if you’ve had a great dining experience? Well consider e-mailing three people and telling them how much you love The Mollie Shambeau Show—THAT’S TIP ENOUGH FOR ME. Thank you, in advance for your willingness to spread the word.

Now enjoy a few shots and corresponding captions from my adventure…

The pups enjoy a quick 5 minutes of sunshine and a stunning view before we're all forced back inside for fear of heat exhaustion. Daisy...rollover! Er...Daisy—play dead! Good dog...

The Tuacahn Amphitheatre, set in the picturesque red rock formations of St. George

Mary Lou and me before Cats, enjoying a sneak peek of the empty theater.

Me, pretending to be a Jellicle cat with a castmember from Cats. Not really sure the "open mouth smile" is doing it for me. Mary Lou: I can almost hear you now in the background—SHE WRITES A BLOG! THE MOLLIE SHAMBEAU SHOW! ...I have you to thank for all my publicity during my stay!

Again, me pretending I'm a part of the show with Mr. Mistoffelees. Funny thing—we met his parents during intermission...they were sitting right in front of us during the show. Again, thanks to Mary Lou and her knack for being able to chat with just about anyone.

A few nights later, we went to see the other musical showing at Tuacahn: Tarzan. It's the first regional production of Tarzan in the entire United States (Ooo...ahhh). Here, I didn't really want to show up Tarzan and his rippling muscles, or Jane and her perfect curly hair, so I just smiled :)

A quick stop at Zion National Park on my way home.

Breathtaking. The photos don't even do the view justice...

Look—even the road is red with all the red rock formations. How cool?

A quick shout out to Tom and Mary Lou—I had an fantastic time! Thanks for everything!
